Lauren Roethemeyer (JR/St. Louis, Mo.) pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds and grabbed three steals to lead the Eutectic women's basketball team's defense in tonight's 81-31 loss to Harris-Stowe State University at St. Louis Community College at Meramec.
Both teams shot below 20% in the first quarter, with HSSU claiming an 8-4 lead at the buzzer. The Hornets found their sea legs in the second quarter, making 13 of 26 shots, including three 3-pointers from Alantis Sutton, and racking up 33 points to STLCOP's four. The Euts headed to the locker rooms at the half, down 41-8.
The Eutectics more than doubled their score in the third quarter, but HSSU's Sutton dropped in three more 3-pointers, scoring 11 of her 30 points in the period. The score was 59-18 - Hornets after the third quarter. The STLCOP team saved its best period for last, dropping in 13 points in the fourth quarter, while the Hornets had 22.
Sutton led HSSU with 30 points, and Khalilah Morrow and Angela Randall had double doubles for the Hornets. Morgan Rose (SO/Lake St. Louis, Mo.) led the STLCOP offense with nine points, while Gabrielle Morgan (FR/Collinsville, Ill.) (8), Allison Dewald (SO/Sutter, Ill.) (5), Paige Forshee (SR/Leadwood, Mo.) (5), and Roethemeyer (4) also scored for the Euts.
The Lady Eutectics, now 1-7 (0-7 AMC), will take on Missouri Baptist University on Thursday, Jan. 5, at MBU at 12:00 p.m. for their first AMC matchup of the season.
