In his third game of the season due to injury, Colton Frazer (SO/Moundridge, Kan.) led the Eutectic men's basketball offense with 12 points in the second half against Harris-Stowe State University tonight at St. Louis Community College at Meramec.
The Euts fell 94-43 to the Hornets.
HSSU marked the board first, with two-points from Michael Gregg in the first minute. STLCOP's John Meinhardt (SO/Laguna Hills, Calif.) answered back seconds later with a 3-pointer, giving the Euts their only lead of the night. Trevor Roberts dropped in three 3-pointers to put towards his 11 points in the first half. He and Michael Gregg would finish the game as the high scorers with 18 points apiece. Meinhardt dropped in another 3-pointer and two free throws to lead the Eutectics into the second half with eight points. But, the Hornets got off more shots and made more of them. (HSSU: 18/40, STLCP 7/27.) At half-time, the Hornets led 45-20.
In the second half, HSSU's Gregg and STLCOP's Frazer each put in 12 points to lead their teams. The Hornets improved their shooting percentage to 59.5%, while the Euts struggled to find the net, shooting 27%. The Hornets outscored the Eutectics in 49-23 after halftime.
Throughout the game HSSU forced 21 Eutectic turnovers and made seven blocks and 15 steals to dominate the game. The Hornets had four players in double digits at the game's end. This was the second conference win for the Hornets, who are now 4-8 (2-4 AMC).
STLCOP's Kyle Jones (SR/Williamsville, Ill.) had two steals and three assists to go along with his six points. Meinhardt and McGwire Barley each had eight points, Mahde Shawahin (SR/O'Fallon, Ill.) had seven, and Cameron Whitlock (SR/St. Louis, Mo.) had two points to add to Frazer's 12 total for the Eutectic team.
The Eutectics are still winless in regulation play, with a 0-8 (0-6 AMC) record for the season. They will meet AMC-member Missouri Baptist University for their first matchup of the season on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at the MBU campus.
