Travelling with only three players, the Lady Eutectic tennis team still managed to return from a double header day on Saturday, Mar. 18, with one win at Oakland City University (Ind.) (4-2) and one loss at Indiana University Southeast (6-3).
The OCU Mighty Oaks were also short on numbers for the morning match, posting only four players to their official roster. With only seven players between the two teams, No. 5 and 6 singles along with No. 3 doubles were never even scheduled, due to incomplete lineups on both sides. With six courts to play, the Euts started the match down 0-2 by defaulting Court 4 singles and Court 2 doubles. Despite the deficit, the Eutectics came out on top, dominating all four of the matches played.
After Tulchinskaya and Stevenson collected an 8-1 win over Chelsea Doty and Olivia Carroll at No. 1 doubles, the Eutectic squad collected three wins at singles. Tulchinskaya and Jenna Smith (JR/Evansville, Ind.) shutout their opponents at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, while Stevenson claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Carroll at No. 2.
After the win at OCU, the Euts drove an hour and a half to New Albany to take on Indiana University Southeast. Unlike OCU, IUS had a full roster, so the STLCOP team started the match by defaulting five of nine courts creating a scenario with no possible chance at a victory for the Euts. Still, the Eutectic squad fought hard, dropping only one of the four matches played. Tulchinskaya and Stevenson picked up another win at No. 1 doubles to maintain their undefeated 6-0 doubles record for the year, downing Dana Frank and Alexis Applegate, 8-6. Then, both Tulchinskaya and Stevenson dominated their singles opponents at Courts 1 and 2, not allowing a single game from opponents Anne Marie Mattox and Audrey Whitacre. As STLCOP's top two singles players and No. 1 doubles team, Tulchinskaya and Stevenson are undefeated on the year. On Court 3 of the IUS match, Smith lost a tough battle in a third-set tie-breaker to Jeannie Soto, 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.
The Lady Eutectics are now 5-1 for 2016-17. Next up, they will travel to Fulton, Mo., to take on Westminster College on Mar. 31 at 3 p.m.
