The Eutectic softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at home to Park University on Friday, and suffered two more losses on the road at William Woods University on Saturday.
After giving up three runs to the Park Pirates in the first inning of Game 1 on Friday, the Eutectics rallied in the bottom of the first when Tayler Evans (SR/Granite City, Ill.)' RBI double brought home Lydia Braun (FR/Collinsville, Ill.) to score STLCOP's only run of the weekend. Up 3-1 over the Eutectics, the Pirates scored nine runs in the third, and another seven in the fourth to claim the 19-1 win. Shelby Bendure earned the win for the Pirates, giving up four hits and one run. Jessica Kirk (FR/Ballwin, Mo.) was charged with the loss for the Eutectics. Both pitchers added two strikeouts to their stats.
In Game 2, the Euts fell behind 5-0 in the first inning when pitcher Allison Dewald (JR/Sutter, Ill.) walked the first six PU batters. Kirk came in to close out the inning for the Eutectics, but Dewald returned in the second to finish the game. The Pirates scored another eight runs in the second, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth, as the Eutectics could not bring anyone home. The Pirates won the game 17-0, outhitting the Euts 10-3, and taking advantage of STLCOP's six errors. Scotlin Hurley earned the win, striking out five Eutectic batters. Dewald was charged with the loss.
On Saturday, the Euts suffered a 19-0 loss at William Woods in Game 1. The Owls outhit the Euts 12-2, scoring runs in each of the four innings they batted. WWU pitcher Sierra Jacques took the win, while Dewald recorded the loss for the Eutectics.
Owls pitcher Bre Logan threw a no-hitter, recording seven strikeouts, as WWU trounced the Eutectics 15-0 in Game 2. The Owls recorded 15 runs off of 15 hits and 1 Eutectic error, again, scoring in each inning at bat. Jessica Kirk suffered the loss on the mound for the Euts.
Entering the final week of the season, the Eutectics' record is 2-22 (0-18 AMC). The games this week are rescheduled from previously rained out games. Next up, the Euts travel to Columbia, Mo., on Tuesday, to take on the Stephens College Stars for an AMC doubleheader with first pitch at 2 p.m.
