The Eutectic women's tennis team made history this spring, with its first ever conference wins and winning season.
The Lady Euts finished the season with an 8-4 record, including two dominant AMC wins over Lindenwood University-Belleville (8-1) and Stephens College (6-3). The team entered the combined AMC/Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) championships ranked #6 – the highest-ever STLCOP ranking – to earn a first round bye. Despite a good effort, the Euts fell to #3 Baker University (5-0) in the second round, ending a season full of successes.
Sophomore Michelle Tulchinskaya (SO/Buffalo Grove, Ill.) led the Euts at the top of the lineup, improving her ITA Regional Ranking to #15 (up from last year's #17) and smashing several STLCOP records. She finished the 2016-17 season with an 8-3 singles record and a 9-3 doubles record with partner Emily Stevenson (FR/Florissant, Mo.). That doubles record earned the duo the STLCOP record for Single Season Doubles wins. Tulchinskaya already owned the program's Single Season Singles wins and Single Season Combined wins records, and after this season, she also claimed the STLCOP record for Career Singles Wins at 23-5.
Stevenson was named AMC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on April 17 after claiming four conference victories (singles and doubles wins over LUB and Stephens). Her season singles record of 9-3 at Court 2 was the best on the Eutectic team this season.
The Lady Euts will lose only one senior after this season (Masha Kurenok (SR/Chesterfield, Mo.)). With recruiting in full swing, the team should come back strong in 2017-18.
