The Eutectic women's volleyball team lost its first two matches of the season at the Evangel University Tournament in Springfield, Mo.
In their 1 p.m., the Euts took on Tabor College, falling in three sets: 25-13, 25-17, 25-20. Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.) led the Euts with four kills, hitting at 50%, but the team attacking percentage lagged at .038. Tabor's Amy Horner and Kendra Kroeker notched 16 and 14 kills apiece to lead their team to 47 kills in the match. STLCOP's Julia Huynh (SO/Lincoln, Ill.) and Kate Toler (SR/DuQuoin. Ill.) each added two aces to their career totals, while setter Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.) racked up 15 assists and eight digs in her first college match.
At 5 p.m., John Brown University also got the better of the Eutectics in three sets. After losing a close first set, the STLCOP team could not challenge the John Brown team in the second sets with scores of 26-24, 25-9, 25-15. Amy Rotella (JR/Dixon, Ill.) led the STLCOP offense with four kills, while Kinnikin put up 13 assists and Huyhn had 14 digs. John Brown's Carly McKinney racked up 15 kills to lead the team in their total of 47.
Now 0-2, the Eutectics will play two more matches in the tournament tomorrow, when they take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 10 a.m. and College of the Ozarks at 2 p.m.
