The Eutectics played two matches today, in the final day of competition for the Evangel University Volleyball Tournament, coming just short of a win in both.
At 10 a.m. this morning, the Euts came out strong against Oklahoma Wesleyan University, winning the first set 27-25. But, the STLCOP team could not hold on to the momentum, falling 14-25, 17-25, and 15-25 to lose the match 1-4. Mackenzie Wagner (SO/Walford, Iowa) put down eight kills for the Euts, while Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.) set up 28 assists and served up three aces. On defense, Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.) made five solo blocks and three block assists, while Julia Huyhn had 17 digs.
In their 2 p.m. match against a nationally recognized College of the Ozarks squad, the Euts put up a good fight, eventually falling 19-25, 16-25, 23-25. Wagner and Reno led the STLCOP team in the front row, making 10 and 8 kills, hitting at 43% and 58%, respectively, and collecting two blocks each. Huhyn, again, led in digs with 19, and Kinnikin shared setting duties with Alaina Caldwell (SO/DuQuoin, Ill.), each collecting 20 and 12 assists, respectively.
The Eutectics are 0-4 after four losses at the tournament. On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the STLCOP team will open its conference season in the brand new STLCOP gymnasium against Lindenwood University-Belleville at 7 p.m.
