The Eutectic volleyball team lost in straight sets today at Principia College (11-2) with scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.
After a slow start in set one, the Eutectics made every effort to turn things around in the second set. The STLCOP team pulled ahead 13-8 before the Panthers called a timeout to regroup. After the timeout, Prin went on a 13-4 run, eventually gaining a 21-17 lead en route to the win. The Eutectics turned the momentum back around to their favor in the beginning of the third set, taking a 10-6 lead before the Panthers' Devon Marunde served five points in a row to put Principia back on top at 11-10. The STLCOP team would not give up the fight, however, and pulled ahead 15-11 before the Panthers took another crucial timeout. After several lead changes, Principia was the first to get to 25 points and win the set and the match.
Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.) again led the Euts on offense, collecting eight kills and hitting at 41%. Amy Rotella (JR/Dixon, Ill.) and Mackenzie Wagner (SO/Walford, Iowa) were close behind with seven kills each. Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.) put up 18 assists and 16 digs for the Euts.
Sophia Hathaway led the Panthers with 18 kills, hitting at 42%. Marunde had 36 assists, while Mia Gill recorded 20 digs for Prin.
The Euts are now 2-9 for the season (0-3 in the AMC).On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the team will be back in conference action with a trip down the street to Harris-Stowe State University for a 7 p.m. match.
