The Eutectic volleyball team lost in a five-set conference match tonight at the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets gym.
After a close 25-23 loss in the first set, the Eutectics came back strong to win the second – only allowing 15 points from the Hornets. Now tied 1-1, the Hornets rallied to win a close third set, 25-23, and regain the lead. But, that didn't deter the Eutectics from taking the fourth set, 20-25. Tied at 2-2, it came down to the deciding abbreviated fifth set, in which the Hornets took charge from the beginning and held on to win 15-9 for the match.
Despite having nearly twice as many attack errors than the Euts, the Hornets claimed 12 more kills and seven more digs, along with a whopping 17 service aces to take the match.
Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.) hit at 31% for the Eutectics, putting away 12 of 26 attempts. She also put up four blocks. Kate Toler (SR/DuQuoin. Ill.) led the team in digs with 20, and Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.) collected 36 assists and two aces.
For the Hornets, Miaya Peacock led the team with 25 kills, four aces, and 22 digs. Kennedy Netters recorded 49 assists, while Kiarra Herron and Niya Jenkins also had four aces, with Herron collecting three blocks on the night.
This was HSSU's second conference win to put them at 3-4 (2-3 AMC). The Eutectics fell to 2-10 (0-4 AMC). Tomorrow night at 7 p.m., they take on No.-10 ranked Missouri Baptist University in Chesterfield for another AMC matchup.
