The Eutectic women's soccer team took a tough 9-1 American Midwest Conference loss to the Lyon College Scots yesterday in Batesville, Ark.
The Scots (4-5-1, 4-2 AMC) took control right away, scoring goals at the third and eighth minute of the game to put Lyon up 2-0. Before the first half was over, the Scots would score two more, including a penalty kick that got by STLCOP goalkeeper Kylee Lewis (FR/Fisk, Mo.) from Joyce Barbosa.
After a quick second-half goal by Lyon's Jessica Souza, Barbosa would go on to score the final four goals for the Scots to total five goals in the game. STLCOP's Christina Arackal (SR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) finally put the Eutectics on the board with a goal off an assist from sister Cynthia Arackal (FR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) in the 77th minute.
The Scots took 25 shots during the game with 15 on goal. Lewis made six saves in the game, while Lyon goalkeeper Claire Coley faced three Eutectic shots on goal, saving two.
Lewis, new to the role of goalkeeper this season, currently ranks ninth in the NAIA for Total Saves with 79 and 10th in Saves per Game, averaging 9.88. She is fourth and second in the AMC in those categories.
Now 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the AMC, the Eutectics will travel to Lincoln, Ill., on Tuesday, Oct. 3, for their second game against Lincoln Christian University this season. The STLCOP team beat LCU, 9-1, at SLUH on Sept. 5, and are undefeated against the LCU Red Lions in their previous six matchups.
