The Eutectic men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 loss to the Lyon College Scots (5-2-2, 4-0-1 AMC) yesterday in Batesville, Ark.
Goals from Ulises Cordova and Rodrigo Ugalde in the 13th and 39th minute, put the Scots up 2-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Lyon team would add three more goals before STLCOP's Nedzad Idrizovic (SO/Oakville, Mo.), returning from an ankle injury, would prevent the shutout for the Eutectics, scoring with less than three minutes left in the game.
The Scots took 24 shots with 14 of them on goal. Lyon goalkeeper Vicente Alamos defended one of the Eutectics' two shots on goal. STLCOP goalkeeper Pedro Salgueiro (SO/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) collected nine saves during the game to add to his total.
Salgueiro currently leads the American Midwest Conference in Saves per Game (10.0) and Total Saves (60), and moves up the national rankings to No. 2 and No. 5 in the NAIA with those keeper statistics.
The Eutectics are now 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the AMC. On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the team will travel to Lincoln, Ill., to take on the Lincoln Christian University Red Lions for the second time this season. The Euts defeated the Red Lions, 2-0, when they played in St. Louis on Sept. 5. The Eutectics have won five of the last six meetings between the two teams.
