The Eutectic volleyball team returned from Paragould, Ark., yesterday with two shutouts earned at a tri-match at Crowley's Ridge College. With her 32 kills of 43 attempts, Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.)'s tipped the scales to earn the No. 1 spot in the national (NAIA) and conference (AMC) rankings for Hitting Percentage at 50.6%.
In their first match, the Eutectics dominated Welch College, an NCCAA & ACCA associated college from Nashville, Tenn., winning in straights sets: 25-8, 25-13, 25-13. Led by Reno, the STLCOP team hit at 21.7% and, led by Alaina Caldwell (SO/DuQuoin, Ill.)'s six service aces, racked up 13 aces as a team.
After the win over Welch, the Euts went on to shutout the host team, the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers (5-14), for the second time this season: 25-22, 25-17, 25-13. The Euts defeated the Pioneers in straight sets in St. Louis on Sept. 15.
Cassady Reno's 74% hitting in the tri-match led the Eutectics on offense. Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.) collected another 43 assists over the two matches, while libero Kate Toler (SR/DuQuoin. Ill.) racked up 39 digs for the Euts.
The double win puts the Eutectics at 4-11 for the season (0-5 AMC). This week, they will compete at home on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Next up, the Euts invited MacMurray College (6-14) and Lincoln Christian University (8-12) for a tri-match on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with STLCOP matches at 4 and 8 p.m. The Euts have a 2-2 record against the MC Highlanders, but have fallen in three sets in their last two meetings. The LCU Red Lions are undefeated against the Eutectics in their last five matches.
