The Eutectic women's soccer team defeated Lincoln Christian University Red Lions yesterday on the Red Lions home field in Lincoln, Ill. The 5-3 win was the second victory over the Red Lions for the Lady Euts this season.
With Abigail Crockett's goal in the first minute of the game, the Red Lions made it clear right off the bat that despite falling 9-1 to the Euts in St. Louis on Sept. 5, they were not ready to lay down. Playing with a full roster this time, the Red Lions scored the first two goals – both from Crockett, with the second goal only four minutes in. After those two punches to the jaw, the Lady Euts woke up with two goals in seven minutes. Cynthia Arackal (FR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) found the net at 12 minutes, and her sister Christina at Arackal got one past LCU goalkeeper Mikayla Smith at 19 minutes to tie it at 2-2. Ten minutes later, Crockett completed her hat trick off an assist from Jayla Middleton to put the Red Lions back on top. But STLCOP's Mattison Morgan (SO/Litchfield, Ill.) responded by tying it up off a pass from Cynthia Arackal. The teams would head into halftime tied at 3-3.
In the second half, Morgan Geissler (SR/Carbondale, Ill.) gave the Euts the lead with a goal at 62:48. At 75 minutes, Christina Arackal (SR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) secured the win for the Eutectics with her second goal of the night. The Euts held the Red Lions to five shots in the second period, allowing none of those to penetrate.
The STLCOP team outshot LCU 34-13. Goalkeeper Kylee Lewis (FR/Fisk, Mo.) collected the win with six saves on the night, while LCU's Smith took the loss, despite her 12 saves.
The Eutectic squad is now 3-6 (0-5 AMC) heading into this weekend's conference matchup with William Woods University. The Euts will host the Owls at 12noon at St. Louis University High School on Saturday, Oct. 7.
