The Eutectic volleyball team fell 3-0 to the William Woods University Owls (16-2, 6-0 AMC) tonight in an American Midwest Conference matchup in St. Louis.
In a sluggish start to the match, the Eutectics lost 25-11 to the Owls in the first set. The Euts came from behind at 7-2 in the second set to tie it up at 8-8, then allowed the Owls to creep back ahead to take the 25-18 set win. In the third, the STLCOP team had a commanding 9-3 lead, and held on to a five point lead at 14-9, when WWU won five in a row off of Melanie Kala's serves to tie it up 14-14. From there, the teams traded points until 17-17, when the Owls took the lead for good, and claimed the set at 25-19.
Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.) and Aften Richter (FR/Highland, Ill.) led the Euts in kills with 7 and 6, respectively. Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.) collected 20 assists, Kate Toler (SR/DuQuoin. Ill.) recorded 13 digs, and Aubree Mann (FR/Manteno, Ill.) had the Eutectics' only service ace.
The Owl team hit at 22.5%, racking up 14 blocks and 63 digs. Tory Wiley led WWU on offense with 10 kills, while Brittney Engelbrecht and Remie Johnson shared setting duties with 15 and 16 assists apiece. Johnson also collected five blocks, while Jessica Jensen had 24 digs.
Now 6-12 (0-6 AMC), the Euts will host the No.5-ranked Park University Pirates on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. for their next AMC matchup.
