The Eutectic volleyball team fell in straight sets tonight to No. 5-ranked Park University (18-2, 6-0 AMC) in an American Midwest Conference matchup in St. Louis.
The first set went quickly, as the Park Pirates dominated play, winning 25-13. Park's Noura Meawad connected on six of her eight attack attempts to hit at 75%, while setter Danna Gomez put up 11 assists. The Eutectics' Cassady Reno (FR/O'Fallon, Ill.) and Busola Oginni (JR/St. Louis, Mo.) combined for five kills and four blocks, while libero Kate Toler (SR/DuQuoin. Ill.) made 11 good serve reception passes to setter Kacie Kinnikin (FR/Belleville, Ill.), who put up five assists.
The Eutectics put up a good fight in the second set, matching Park's attacks and connecting on 11 of them. Still, they fell 25-17 to the Pirates. Aften Richter (FR/Highland, Ill.) led the STLCOP team in the set with four kills, while Amy Rotella (JR/Dixon, Ill.) made two blocks.
The Eutectics led the score in the third set until it became tied at 8-8 when Park's Kacie Crabtree served up five in a row to push the Pirates into the lead. The Pirates won the set 25-13. Hitting at 62%, Park's Alyssa Flint pounded down eight kills, as Gomez fed her teammates with 17 assists. The Eutectic squad could only manage five team kills during the set and one block from Reno.
Reno led the Euts with six kills and five blocks on the night, while Kinnikin had nine assists, and Toler recorded six digs. Park's Meawad had 13 kills, Gomez collected 39 assists, and Celina Monteira dug up 20 of STLCOP's attack attempts.
The Eutectics are now 6-13 (0-7 AMC). They will have nearly two weeks off from competition before hosting Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in the STLCOP gymnasium.
