The Eutectic men's soccer team dropped back to back American Midwest Conference games with a loss today at Freed-Hardeman University (2-8, 1-5 AMC) and one on Saturday against William Woods University (9-2-2, 6-0 AMC).
Coming off a 2-1 non-conference win at Lincoln Christian University last week, the Euts faced the WWU Owls, who had received votes for national rankings, on Saturday afternoon in the rain at SLUH. WWU scored three goals in each half off of 18 shots on goal to win the game 6-0. Adis Sahbaz (SR/St. Louis, Mo.) had the Eutectics' only shot on goal during the game. Rodrigo Alvarez recorded a hat trick for the Owls, while Darren Wilson, Matheus Schmid, and Logan Christopher also scored for WWU.
Pedro Salgueiro (SO/Belo Horizonte, Brazil), playing 70 minutes at goal for the Eutectics, made 10 saves and allowed five goals before Luke Dobbelare (JR/Perryville, Mo.) subbed in and made two saves, allowing one.
Today, the Euts travelled to Henderson, Tenn., to take on Freed-Hardeman University for another AMC matchup, falling 5-0 to the Lions. The Eutectic defense held strong in the first half until FHU's Nick Bezold scored off a pass from Bret Sveinson 42 minutes in. The flood gates opened in the second half, when FHU scored four more goals from Mauricio Joes Gonzalez, Daniel Peinado, Roger Gisbert Castelltort, and Jose Andrada. The Eutectics' Sheldon Kolawole (JR/Ballwin, Mo.) recorded the team's only shot on goal, while FHU blasted 14 at the STLCOP net. Salgueiro, playing all 90 minutes for the Eutectics, kept nine shots from reaching the net, increasing his Total Saves count for the season to 81. He continues to rank in the NAIA top-ten and lead the conference for Total Saves and Saves per Game.
Still searching for that conference win, the Eutectics are now 2-8 (0-6 AMC). They have five games left in the season – all of them AMC matchups. Next up, the Euts travel to Belleville, Ill., to take on the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m.
