Barnes earned his B.S. from Erskine College in South Carolina and is set to complete his Masters of Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia-Irvine University (December ’16). He joined the athletic department in 2011 and is entering his sixth year with STLCOP.
As an integral part of the athletic department, Barnes serves as Champions of Character Liaison, Compliance Manager, and Intramural-Club Sports Coordinator. As Champions of Character Liaison, he has been able to bring the College to Silver-Status, which signifies the College’s commitment to uphold the mission and values of the NAIA. Additionally, Barnes has played an active role in developing the current intramural and club sports programming on campus. As an active member of NIRSA and MOIRSA, he participates and engages with leading college campus recreational departments in bringing innovative ideas to STLCOP. Barnes is excited for the possibilities with the new construction to promote further growth of the recreation department as an integral part of the STLCOP community.
As a coach, Barnes has over 10 years of experience working with different demographics and skill-levels. He is a certified level professional, PTR Professional 1 A, regular attender at the PTR International Symposium, and Etcheberry Certified. As a college tennis coach, Barnes developed the tennis program to be a respected and competitive presence. He conceptualized and designed the STLCOP Tennis Invitational tournament, where he serves as the tournament director. Additionally, Barnes serves as the AMC Conference Tennis Chair, where he oversees smooth operations within the conference. It is his goals to ensure that student-athletes have access to the best resources and experience the benefits of competitive collegiate athletics.
