Lohman spins another gem...and lands 2nd straight POW
ST. LOUIS, MO - Barrett Lohman has strung together outstanding back-to-back starts. Two weeks ago it was 15 strikeouts in a four-hit, complete game blanking of Harris-Stowe. That performance earned him American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week. This past week, the task was much tougher: go on the road and face a club who's lineup was stacked with three reigning First Team All-Conference bats, had won nine consecutive and was ranked #19 in the land. Lohman did not blink. The righthander fanned ten Missouri Baptist Spartans, allowed a seventh-inning solo homerun and five total hits in leading UHSP to their first-ever win over the Spartans in a 2-1 triumph on Friday. It kicked things off on a day where the Eutectics ended up taking a pair from MBU. For the second straight week, Lohman earned AMC Pitcher of the Week.
Lohman talked about the key on his last two outings and being able to handle a tough Spartan lineup saying, "I think just limiting the walks. They're a good hitting team, I just gotta throw them a lot of strikes and fill up the zone with every different pitch and I think I just did that well today. Rolling with a good feeling and just keep going forward."
The next start for Lohman will likely come this weekend when the Eutectics host new AMC-member Mission on Friday and Saturday. The Eutectics do travel to Westminster on Tuesday for a pair of non-conference games before that weekend series. No matter when that next start comes, Lohman is quickly cementing himself as the early season ace of the UHSP staff.
In conjuction with Lohman landing this week's Pitcher of the Week award, Central Baptist's Brayden Mayencourt was named AMC Player of the Week.
