Brandon Gibbs ties record and leads UHSP past Fontbonne

CLAYTON, MO – In what amounted to be a bullpen game, the Eutectics used eight different pitchers and the two runs the offense scored in the first was enough in a 4-1 win over Fontbonne.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 4, FONTBONNE 1

  • Brandon Gibbs led off the game with a single, stole second and came home on a throwing error by FBU starter Kendall Horton on a Holden Campbell single. After a pair of strikeouts, Caden Buxton came through with a two-out RBI single to shallow center to score Campbell and make it a 2-0 game.
  • Brayden Steves began the parade of UHSP hurlers as he got the start and went just one inning striking out one and allowing one hit.
  • Wyatt Waters followed to pitch the second and gave up a run on a hit with two strikeouts. Gavin Lyday hit his first homerun of the season to get the Griffins on the board in the second and make it 2-1.
  • In the Eutectic fifth, Dustin Aleck doubled to lead off the frame and scored on a Gibbs single to left.
  • Gibbs was involved in the final UHSP run as well in the ninth as he singled home Nolan Harding who had singled to make it 4-1.
  • Logan Stribling gets the win as he tossed a scoreless, hitless third with a strikeout.
  • Jacob Grim pitched the final two innings fanning three and walking one to collect his first save.
  • Gibbs went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot scoring a run and driving in a pair. He also stole three bases in the game, becoming just the second Eutectic to ever steal three bases in a contest.  He joins Jovonnie Bautista who accomplished the feat last year.
  • Barrett Bressette had the only other multi-hit day going 2-for-4.
  • Fontbonne featured five different batters having one hit each.
