Familiar foes split Friday DH; Lohman earns W with CG
FULTON, MO – Barrett Lohman opened a Friday twin bill for UHSP by tossing another complete game in a 6-4 triumph over former AMC-rival William Woods as he struck out nine. The second game saw the Owls take command with a six-run fifth en route to a 10-6 win as the Eutectics committed three errors in the contest. Nolan Harding and Brandon Gibbs each had three hits for UHSP on the day.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
GAME 1: UHSP 6, WILLIAM WOODS 4
- The Eutectics took and early 4-1 with two in the first and two in the second. Brandon Gibbs singled to open the game and three batters later rode home a Jacob Grim homerun. It was the fourth of the year for Grim and third in the last four games. In the second, it was Ethan Harrell's turn to deliver the longball as he drilled a two-out, two-run shot for his first homerun of the season.
- Barrett Lohman was on cruise control allowing just a run through four innings and striking out five, including fanning the side in the second. A Kaden Kinsler RBI single in the fifth allowed a leadoff walk to score and make it 4-2.
- The Eutectics managed to manufacture a run in the sixth as the loaded the bases with nobody out thanks to a walk, two hit batters and three stolen bases. Jackson Hewitt scored Grim with an RBI fielder's choice.
- UHSP grabbed an unearned run in the seventh before Kaden Kinsler delivered a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-4. Lohman closed the show after that with a strikeout and ground to finish out his second straight complete game. Lohman is now 2-1 on the season and over the last two starts has 13IP, 6ER, 17K.
- UHSP got outhit in the game 7-5 and five different Eutectics had one hit each. Grim drove in three in the game.
- Gavin Allen (1-2) got the start and took the loss for WWU. He did strikeout nine, but allowed five runs on four hits and walked four.
GAME 2: WILLIAM WOODS 10, UHSP 6
- Holden Campbell doubled in Brandon Gibbs in the first to put UHSP on top 1-0, but Kaden Kinsler promptly tied it with an RBI single in the home-half of the frame. With two out and two on in the bottom of the second, Camron Casso plated a pair with a double as the Owls jumped on top 3-1.
- The Eutectics tied it in the top of the fourth as the first two reached and then scored on a Deklan Riggs double. The promising inning ended with a strikeout and a lineout after the Eutectics loaded the bases with one out.
- Carson Shettlesworth went 3-for-3 in the contest and put WWU on top with a go-ahead homerun in the fourth.
- William Woods broke it open with a six-run fifth as Jude Gremillion had an RBI single, Brayden Groseclose drove in a pair and Evan Rainey capped the frame with a two-run homerun.
- UHSP scored three times in the seventh getting consecutive RBI's from Gibbs, Campbell and Nolan Harding.
- Gibbs and Harding each had a pair of hits in the game along with an RBI.
- Peyton Schaefer took the loss after going four inning in the start. He allowed six earned runs on seven hits, walked one and fanned three.
- Jackson Wininger and Kyle Smith each went an inning with Smith allowing just two hits while Wininger was hit for three runs on as many hits.
- Keith Piepmeier picked up the win (2-0) in relief going three frames while giving three runs on a pair of hits, walking two and fanning four.

The Owls (6-5) and Eutectics (6-9) continue a four-game weekend series with another doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00p. The Eutectics will then play their first AMC series next weekend at home against Central Baptist (11-10) starting on Friday at 6:00p.
