Pitcher's duel followed by offensive explosion between UHSP and HLGU
HANNIBAL, MO – Caden Buxton had a three hit day and drove in five overall helping UHSP to an AMC split with Hannibal-LaGrange. The Eutectic offense had just three hits in the opener spoiling a solid pitching outing from ace Barrett Lohman in a 2-0 HLGU win. The backend of the Friday doubleheader was a wild one as the Eutectics pulled out a 12-10 win in 12 innings.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE 2, UHSP 0
- The Trojans took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the third and then added an RBI single by Ethan Eskew an inning later. The game featured a total of eight combined hits by eight different players.
- Andrew Arnce picked up the win tossing five shutout innings surrendering just three hits. He walked and struck out one.
- Barrett Lohman took the loss allowing two runs on five hits. We walked two and fanned five.
- An 0-for-3 game from Nolan Harding snapped his 13-game hitting streak.
UHSP 12, HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE 10 (12 INNINGS)
- Nolan Harding and Caden Buxton traded RBI doubles in the first to put UHSP on the board. Harding drove in one and Buxton drove in a pair. Deklan Riggs added an RBI single to score Buxton as the Eutectics led 4-0 after one.
- An RBI single and a bases loaded walk cut the UHSP lead in half in the second.
- Buxton was at it again in the third as he crushed a three-run homerun to make it a 7-2 game, his second homer of the season.
- Hannibal-LaGrange scored two in the fourth, two more in the seventh and took the lead in the eighth. The Trojans scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch, a wild pitch and a fielder's choice for the go-ahead runs in the eighth.
- Harding and Jacob Grim had RBI's in the UHSP ninth to tie it and the Eutectics took the lead on a sac fly from Joe Celeste to go up 10-9.
- The Eutectic pen could not close it out as Leo Ibarra roped a run-scoring double to left to tie it at 10-10 and send the game to extras.
- Tristan Calmes started for UHSP and went the first five frames. He gave four runs on four hits and struck out three, but walked six.
- At the plate with the game still tied in the 12th, Campbell put the Eutectics in front with a bases loaded walk and Jackson Hewitt drove in a run as he was hit by a pitch as UHSP took a 12-10 lead.
- Gavin Long, Brayden Steves and Holden Campbell all saw work out of the UHSP pen. Campbell yielded the game tying run in the bottom of the ninth, but in the tenth, HLGU had runners on first and second with two outs and Campbell induced a fly out from Jude Shook to get out of the jam. Campbell ran into trouble in the 12th as the first two reached to bring the winning run to the plate. But he recorded three straight outs to finish out a four-inning win. Despite allowing the game-tying run in the ninth, Campbell was stellar out of the bullpen as that was the only run he allowed over four hits. He walked and struck out one. Eutectic pitchers walked ten and fanned six. Along with the solid pitching outing, Campbell was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
- Deklan Riggs and Jacob Grim each had two hits for UHSP.
- Drew Elsenrath went the final three innings for Hannibal-LaGrange and took the loss. He allowed two runs on three hits and walked three.

The three-game AMC slate against Hannibal-LaGrange (6-12, 1-4 AMC) finishes on Saturday with a single game at 6p. Then despite expected chilly temperatures, the Eutectics (9-13, 2-3 AMC) have a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday against Maranatha Baptist at 11:00a. Then it is back into AMC play on Friday with a three-game weekend series at Williams Baptist.
