Offense comes out hot as Eutectics score a dozen and win
WALNUT RIDGE, AR – Caden Buxton continued his hot hitting and Nolan Harding had a four-hit game as the Eutectics banged out 15 hits en route to a 12-9 win over Williams Baptist to salvage a game out of their three-game weekend series.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 12, WILLIAMS BAPTIST 9
- Nolan Harding had the first of his four hits in the top of the first to drive in Brandon Gibbs to put the Eutectics up 1-0. Williams Baptist responded with a three-run first to take a 3-1 lead.
- In the second, Ethan Harrell singled to score Sebastian Villegas for an unearned run to make it 3-2. Harrell went 2-for-5 on the day.
- In the third, UHSP took a lead they would never relinquish scoring five times to grab a 7-3 advantage. Caden Buxton had an RBI single as he recorded a hit in the fifth consecutive game. Jackson Hewitt and Deklan Riggs followed with back-to-back RBI doubles and Gibbs capped the frame with an RBI single as he went 2-for-5 in the game scoring three times. He has a ten-game hit streak and has hits now in 17 of the last 18 games.
- Riggs was at it again in the fourth driving in a run with a single to center and then scored on a wild pitch.
- After a run in the third, the Eagles added two in the fourth as Will Riley stole home and then Gavin Mink drove in a run with a single to center as UHSP led 9-6 after four.
- Harding had three RBI's on the day and drove in his second of the game in the fifth with a sac fly to score Gibbs. WBU matched that run scoring in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-7.
- Williams Baptist made it interesting scoring twice in the sixth to make it 10-9. Cade Parks had an RBI groundout and Mari Thomas had an RBI single to center.
- The Eutectics were able to hold on for the win adding a Harding RBI single in the seventh and then adding another on a wild pitch in the ninth. Harding now has ten multi-hit games on the year.
- John Grim started for UHSP and went two innings. He gave up three runs on just two hits as he walked and struck out one.
- Four different Eutectic relievers finished out the game with Samuel Harding the most effective tossing three innings of shutout baseball on three hits. He walked two and struck out four as he picked up the save. Brayden Steves was credited with the win.
- Ben Bledsoe was the first of six pitchers used by the Eagles as he suffered the loss (3-3). Bledsoe gave up seven runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
- Buxton has driven in nine runs in his last four games.
- Gavin Mink had three of Williams Baptist's ten hits as he also scored three times.
- Lawson Aaron (3B) committed four errors for WBU in the game.
- The Eutectics stole five bases in the game, two from both Brandon Gibbs and Sebastian Villegas.
NEXT UP:
UHSP (11-15, 4-5 AMC) is idle until an AMC series next weekend when Crowley's Ridge (14-14-1, 3-3-1 AMC) comes to St. Louis. It will be a single game on Friday starting at 6:00p and then a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1:00p.
