Eutectics and Patriots finish up series with Friday split
SPRINGFIELD, MO – It was a rare outing where the UHSP ace got hit hard in the opener, but the Eutectics got a strong performance in game two from Jacob Grim as they split a Friday doubleheader with Mission, dropping the opener 6-2 but winning the finale 7-3. Mission had a three-run sixth off Barrett Lohman to blow the first game open while the Eutectics wasted no time in game two with a seven-run second off Patriots starter Braylon Essian who lasted only one frame. Holden Campbell and Nolan Harding each had three hits on the day.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
GAME 1 – MISSION 6, UHSP 2
- Brandon Gibbs led off the game with a single wasting no time in extending his hitting streak to 16 games. He would score on a Jacob Grim ground out to put UHSP up 1-0 in the first. Mission took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on back-to-back RBI's from Collin Miser and Kaedan Thompson.
- Miser went 3-for-3 and added an RBI single in the third to make it 3-1.
- The Eutectics got a run closer in the fourth as Caden Buxton led off the inning with his fifth homerun of the season.
- It was still a one-run game in the sixth when the Patriots got three doubles including run-scoring varieties from Liam Newman and Kadean Jacobs and RBI single from Drew Vaughan to chase Lohman from the game.
- Lohman took the loss going 5.1IP allowing six runs on a dozen hits. He did not walk anyone and fanned four.
- Jude Tenny went the distance in picking up the win. He struck out eight around a walk and six hits allowing two runs.
- Of Mission's 12 hits, half of them were doubles. UHSP had six hits, one from six different players.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
GAME 2 – UHSP 7, MISSION 3
- UHSP staked starter Jacob Grim to an early cushion scoring all their runs in the second inning. A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases. Deklan Riggs, Ethan Harrell and Sebastian Villegas went single-triple-single to make it 5-0. Brandon Gibbs would single to continue the rally as he hit safely in his 17th consecutive game. Nolan Harding would plate two more on a triple to right.
- Mission got singleton runs in the third, sixth and ninth.
- Grim would get the win going seven strong innings scattering seven hits and allowing two runs. He struck out two and walked three. Holden Campbell tossed the last two innings without allowing a hit but walking four. He allowed the run in the ninth and stuck out one.
- Braylon Essian took the loss as he lasted just one inning. He walked two and yielded four hits allowing six of the seven runs in the second.

On Tuesday, the Eutectics (16-17, 8-7 AMC) host Brescia (17-13, 10-7 RSC) in a non-conference game at 12:00p. Then it is back into AMC play on Friday and Saturday when UHSP makes a short trip to Harris-Stowe to meet the Hornets. Games on both days start at noon.
