Eutectics take first game of the series against STL neighbors

ST. LOUIS, MO – Barrett Lohman pitched another complete game and got just enough from his offense as the Eutectics opened a three-game weekend series against Harris-Stowe with a 4-2 win. Deklan Riggs led the way at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a homerun. Holden Campbell added a pair of doubles as the Eutectics pounded out a dozen hits off of four different Hornet pitchers.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 4, HARRIS-STOWE 2

  • Jacob Grim opened the second with a leadoff single and scored on the Riggs RBI double to put UHSP on the board.
  • Campbell's first double made it a 2-0 game in the third as he scored the courtesy runner for Ethan Harrell who led off the inning with a single. Hayden Waters singled to center field in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1.
  • Riggs' second homerun of the season gave UHSP a two-run lead in the fourth. It was his first homer since Feb. 10.
  • The two teams traded runs in the eighth as UHSP scored on a passed ball while HSSU got a run on a Tashaun Coleman double down the rightfield line.
  • It marks the seventh time in the last ten games that UHSP had double digit hits.
  • Lohman did a good job to scatter trouble as Harris-Stowe had ten hits. They had runners in every inning and left a run on in every inning except the eighth, but could never work an extended rally against the Eutectic ace. Lohman (5-3)went the distance, did not walk anyone and fanned four on 94 pitches.
  • Joseph Mann (2-4) pitched the first seven innings allowing three runs on ten hits. He also did not walk anyone and had a strikeout.
  • UHSP leads the all-time series, 6-2.
