Program record for runs and hits and wait...TWO grand slams?

ELSAH, IL– In their final road game of the regular season, the Eutectics set a program record for number of hits in a game, tied an all-time mark for runs scored in a game and blew things open with a six-run fifth followed by a three-run sixth en route to a 22-9 blasting of Principia. UHSP won two games against the Panthers this season as they took a 5-4 decision on March 31. Dustin Aleck tied a program record with six RBI's in the game including a grand slam while Barrett Bressette went 4-for-7 with a double and a homerun.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 22, PRINCIPIA 9

  • Liam Macphie drove in his second run of the game with a single to center in the third to give UHSP a 4-1 lead.
  • Josh Bayless doubled in a run for the Panthers and Rat Mean had a three-run homerun as part of a four-run fourth that put Principia in front 6-4.
  • Barrett Bressette homered to left field to lead off the explosive fifth. Dustin Aleck capped the inning with a grand slam as UHSP led 10-6.
  • The clubs traded three runs in the sixth. Aleck had an RBI hit for the Eutectics while Casey Golbiw had an RBI double and Isaiah Cook singled in two.
  • Jackson Hewitt got into the homerun party with a grand slam four batters into the ninth. UHSP sent 12 men to the plate in the frame scoring eight times on seven hits with a pair of Principia errors. Aleck added an RBI single and Gibbs drove in two with a single to left.
  • Aleck and Bressette each set new Eutectic record as the first UHSP hitters to record seven at bats in a game.
  • UHSP had seven extra base hits: four doubles and three homeruns. They also stole a total of six bases, three by Brandon Gibbs who now has 35 on the season. That is one stolen base short of tying his own school record of 36 which he set last year.
  • Four of the top five in the Eutectic lineup each had multiple hits in the game.
  • The three homeruns in the game are one short of tying the UHSP record of four for most dingers in a single game.
  • Principia committed eight errors in the game. That tied for the third most errors they have ever had in a game. The last time the Panthers committed eight or more errors in a game was March 27, 2015 when they committed a program record 11 in a game against Eureka College.
  • UHSP used seven pitchers in the game. Pierce Love had the longest outing going 2.2IP but allowed four runs on two hits. He still earned the win to improve to 1-2. Wyatt Waters and Gavin Long each went one shutout inning and combined for five strikeouts.
  • Nick Cotter (0-1) took the loss allowing six runs over five hits in 1.1IP while walking three.
  • UHSP leads the all-time series 4-1.
