Win over Columbia seals AMC Pitcher of the Week for Calmes
ST. LOUIS, MO - After his performance on Saturday night, it felt like a foregone conclusion that UHSP's Tristan Calmes would win his second American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week award. All we were waiting for was confirmation from the league. Calmes and the Eutectics got that on Monday as Calmes was indeed named the conference's top pitcher for the week of April 13-19. He beat out five other players to win his second Pitcher of the Week award this season.
The big righthander quieted one of the conference's top offenses in Columbia leading UHSP to their first-ever win over the Cougars. Having battled command issues most of the season, Calmes put it all together on Saturday night as he stuck out 17 Cougar hitters, a new program record while allowing just two runs on five hits while walking four. He threw a complete game while improving to 5-4 on the season.
For the season, Calmes has 57 walks against 62 strikeouts and in 58.1IP he has a team-leading ERA of 4.32. It was the second time this season that Calmes recorded double-digit strikeouts in a game as he struck out ten Lincoln Blue Tigers back on Feb. 21. He now owns six of the top seven marks for most strikeouts by a Eutectic in a single game.
In his career, this the third Pitcher of the Week award for Calmes. He claimed one back on Feb. 23 this season with his first one coming Feb. 10, 2025.
