Eutectics Host Inaugural UHSP Spring Invitational
MADISON, ILL. – The Eutectic men's and women's golf teams hosted 18 teams at the inaugural UHSP Spring Invitational held at Gateway National Golf Links on Monday and Tuesday. After Day 1, the Eutectic men were seated in eighth place of 11 teams, while the women were sixth of seven. Both teams saw improvement in their total scores on Day 2, but held their positions in the final scores.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
- Will Turner led the Eutectic pack, finishing in 32nd place of 62 golfers, finishing Day 1 at 78 and Day 2 at 80.
- Alex Chandler (81, 83) and Brett Bushue (84, 82) finished in 45th and 48th places, respectively.
- Connor Kosola improved on his Day 1 score by 10 strokes with a 79 on Day 2 to tie teammate Abe Neal (85, 83) for 50th place.
- Cooper Thomas earned two birdies on Day 2 to better his Day-1 score by 11 strokes, moving up four spots in the final scoring to 53rd .
- The Eutectic team beat out American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) by 12 strokes to place eighth place of 11 teams. William Woods University (Mo.) won the tournament, with Columbia College's (Mo.) Pedro Marchioni taking the first-place individual prize after a three-way tie at 142 total strokes. His low Day-2 score of 69 was the scorecard playoff tiebreaker to declare him champion.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
- Samantha Kasting scored an 83 to rank 10th on the leaderboard on Day 1. She finished Day 2 with a score of 87 to lead the Eutectics in the final scores at 13th place of 40 golfers.
- Addison Sullivan earned the lowest single-day score for the Purple and Gold on Day 2 after eight pars and a birdie to finish the day with an 81 – a full 13 strokes better than Day 1. She vaulted up 11 spots in the final individuals scores to finish in 15th place.
- Grace Wilkinson and Zoe Lopez rounded out the Eutectic team in 30th and 31st places, respectively. Both Wilkinson and Lopez moved up the leaderboard on Day 2.
- Despite playing with only four golfers, the Eutectic team beat out AMC foe Missouri Baptist University by eight strokes to claim sixth place. Columbia College won the women's tournament, with Lincoln University's (Mo.) Kaathi Gunasegar winning the individual title with scores of 80 and 70.

The Eutectics are back in action next week, competing at the Missouri Baptist University Invitational held at Spencer T. Olin golf course in Alton, Ill., on April 14-15.
