Barbee the top Eutectic at Columbia as UHSP finishes 12th
COLUMBIA, MO – UHSP sent six to the Columbia Classic, as the two-day invitational finished up on Tuesday. The Eutectics finished in 12th place out of 15 teams, but just missed a top-10 finish by ten strokes. Gavin Barbee led the way for the Eutectics as his 166 (+24) gave him 44th place.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Barbee opened the tournament with five pars and a pair of birdies on day one. He birdied numbers two and 12, both par-4's. He finished with an 84, 13-over for the round. On day two, Barbee had seven pars through the 18-holes and added a birdie on the second-longest hole of the tournament, the 552-yard, par-5 15th. He was 11-over for the round with an 82.
- Will Turner and Brett Bushue were part of a five-way tie for 46th place, as they all finished two strokes behind Barbee at 168 (+26). Turner had six pars on day one and ended one stroke behind Barbee at 85 (+14). Bushue meanwhile was tied with Barbee after the opening round with eight pars and a birdie on the final hole, the 551-yard, par-5 18th. On day two, Turner was only four-over at the turn with a 40 as he birdied six holes through the front-nine including the last four holes. He shot a 43 on the back-nine that included three pars. Bushue carded a pair of 42's on day two for an 84 (+13) as he had six pars and an opening birdie on the 571-yard, par-5 first hole.
- Connor Kosola shot an overall 179 (+37) earning 62nd place. He had four pars on day one and ten on day two. He notched a 40 on the front-nine on the second day.
- Cooper Thomas tied with Max Mask of Metropolitan CC for 64th at 182 (+40). Thomas struggled to get things underway on day one with a 52 through nine. That however included a birdie on the 409-yard, par-4 3rd along with a par on #8. He shot nine strokes better on the back nine with a 43 as he found four pars. But Thomas saved the best for last. To start day two, he was over par on each of the first ten holes, but then parred the 222-yard, par-3 11th. He parred four of the ensuing five and finished the back-nine with the only sub-40 score from any Eutectic as he shot a 38 (+2) to finish the day at 87 (+16).
- Gunner Mahurin had a lone par in the tournament as it came on the 8th hole on day one. He went 116-123 for a 239 (+97) total, finishing 75th.
- The Eutectics finished at 681 (+113) ahead of Coffeyville CC, State Fair CC and Hannibal-LaGrange (B). Coffeyville was the nearest chasers, but they were 20 strokes behind the Eutectics. UHSP was five strokes behind Westminster for 11th.
- William Woods' Spencer Worley won the individual crown as he was the lone golfer in the field to finish under par. He finished at 140, four strokes ahead of teammate Marcos Soria Casaponsa. Nebraska Wesleyan had a pair tie for third at 145, Brayden Schram and Jacob Cosimano. The Owls of William Woods also won the team title with a 590 (+22), three better than Nebraska Wesleyan. William Woods' E-team finished third at 597 (+29).
