Bio

Lucas Black hails from Horley, England and joined UHSP in the fall of 2024. He is a World Rugby Level 1 coach and began his rugby playing career at Crawley RFC where he rose through the ranks, before departing to the USA where he first attended Lindenwood-Belleville University in 2018, Winning D1aa National Seven’s in his freshman year. After his success at Lindenwood-Belleville, he transferred to Lindenwood University in Saint Charles. He played in the Collegiate Shield which then saw him move to Houston to play with Rugby HTX in the Houston Sabercats Academy. Black was injured during his tenure in Houston and then returned to Saint Louis where he began work as a Personal Trainer. 

Black then transitioned into a coaching career where he was an Assistant Coach at St. Louis University High in 2023, helping coach them to a State Championship. During the summer of 2023, Black started 501c3 ‘The Saint Louis Rugby Academy’ also known as The Jets which is a high school program focusing on developing grassroots rugby by providing opportunities to play year-round. He helped coach the team to a 4^th place finish in state in their first year.

Black graduated from Lindenwood University with a degree in Exercise Science. He is a family orientated person and lives with his fiancé Sydney and their two dogs Daisy and Delsie. He also is an avid soccer fan and an occasional recreational player. He works at The Fitness Dojo in Webster Groves when he is not coaching.
