ST. LOUIS, MO – It was a chance to face one of the nation's best on Sunday afternoon as the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy played host to #16 Columbia College. The Cougars were coming off a 6-2 win over Jamestown just 24 hours earlier, that after suffering just their second loss of the season three days earlier when they fell to 5th-ranked Bellevue (NE). Columbia would continue their dominance against the Eutectics with a 9-1 win in and American Midwest Conference game as UHSP is still looking for their first-ever win against the Cougars in ten meetings.
Miguel Gonzalez opened the scoring with the first of his two first-half goals, scoring unassisted in the 29th minute. Less than a minute later, Luke Hynes fed Cooper Hayes for a goal to make it 2-0. Gonzalez scored again with 20 minutes left in the half to make it 3-0 burying a rebound off an initial shot that UHSP keeper Wyatt Taylor stopped, but could not corral. 2:16 later, it was Nedim Sarajilija assisting a goal by Julio Gonzalez. The Cougars capped the first-half scoring off a corner kick from Cameron Watts. Watts sent a cross through the box and Josh Sutton had an easy tap-in goal.
The Cougars' offense slowed in the second half, but with 26:09 left, Trenton Garafolo shot one past Jack Wolfe who had come on to take over in net for the second half. Turner Lively provided with a beautiful pass that Garafolo lifted high into the cage. 4:14 later, UHSP got on the board. A Columbia foul set up a direct kick from 30-yards away on the left flank. Kevin Lesmes lofted ball towards congestion in front. With all the scrambling, no one ended up touching the ball and it bounced into the net past Columbia's keeper Alejandro Molto Munoz to make it a 5-1 game. With 13:22 remaining, Brady Freeman scored the first of two goals in a 1:38 span. The first was on a feed from Sarajilija while the second one came after Wolfe came out of the net to try to run a ball down. Freeman got to it first though and walked the ball into an open net. Sutton would net his second of the day with 4:51 left to finish out the scoring.
The Eutectics (1-9, 1-2 AMC) are back in action on Saturday for another AMC contest when they visit Walnut Ridge, AR to play the Williams Baptist Eagles (4-3-4, 0-2 AMC) at 3:00pm.
