Big second half leads to Trojans triumph over UHSP

ST. LOUIS, MO – UHSP was looking for their first-ever win against American Midwest Conference rival Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday morning. After a scoreless first half, the Trojans had a 3-1 lead early in the second half then exploded for four goals in an 8:08 span to send the Eutectics to their eleventh straight defeat with a 7-1 decision.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE 7, UHSP 1

  • Tomas Sanchez was the first of six different goal scorers for Hannibal-LaGrange as he put the visitors on top with his third goal of the year 3:53 into the second half.
  • Pietro Martano set up Owen Rogers for his fourth of the year 1:08 after a Jose Maria Sampaio goal. Rogers's goal made it a 2-1 game and ended a 473:48 scoreless drought for the Eutectics.
  • Miles Kaufmann scored a pair 2:16 apart as the Trojans blew it open between the 60th and 70th minute.
  • HLGU sent 18 shots on net while UHSP managed three. The Trojans outshot the Eutectics 40-6 overall.
  • Christian Morales got the start in net for UHSP and played a brilliant first half. He made seven saves in the opening half including a highlight reel stop on a breakaway by Hannibal-LaGrange as he kept it a scoreless contest through 45-minutes. Morales ended up yielding three goals while making ten saves in just over 60-minutes.
  • Wyatt Taylor played the final 29:50 in the cage for UHSP and allowed four goals while making one save.
  • Sergio Arenas started between the pipes for the Trojans and gave the lone UHSP goal as he made one save in 73:33 of action. Chase Powell played the remainder of the game in net and made a stop on the lone shot he saw.
