McVey Leads Eutectics with Record-Breaking Performance at IWU First Chance Meet
BLOOMINGTON, ILL. – The Eutectic men's track and field team opened the indoor season on Friday evening at the Titan First Chance Meet hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University. Freshman Evan McVey led the UHSP team with a record-breaking performance in the 60m dash and second-place finish in the 200m. No team scores were kept at the meet, which included 11 mostly NAIA and NCAA Div. 3 schools.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshman Evan McVey broke the UHSP men's 60m dash record in his first collegiate meet. By finishing eighth of 50 sprinters in the preliminary heats with a time of 7.11 (just .02 seconds off the school record), he qualified for the finals. Then, McVey improved that time by .04 seconds to finish fifth in the finals with a new UHSP record time of 7.07 seconds. The previous Eutectic record was 7.09 set in 2022 by Jahari Hines.
- McVey also finished second (of 47) in the 200m dash at the meet with a time of 23.19 – just .16 seconds off the school record.
- Freshman Amari Wiedeier became the fifth-fastest indoor-800m runner in school history with a time of 2:07.34 to take second place (of eight) at the meet.
- The 4x400m Relay team of Jared Morales, Wiedemeier, Chris Medlock, and McVey ran the fifth-fastest time in program history at 3:44.57 for fourth place.
- Chris Medlock also earned a spot in the Eutectic All-Time Top-Five with a 200m time of 24.03 seconds for 19th place.
- Ethan Arnoldi set a personal record in the indoor pole vault with a leap of 3.51m (11'6.25) for eighth place.

The Eutectics will break for the holidays before returning in 2026 for the John Craft Invite hosted by Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 17.
