McVey Named Freshman of the Year, Bushue is Conference Champion at AMC Indoor Championships
ELSAH, ILL. – Evan McVey earned Freshman of the Year honors and Brett Bushue successfully defended his Conference Champion title in the pole vault as the Eutectic men's track and field team finished third of five teams at the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Indoor Championships on Saturday at Principia College.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
Team Point Totals: Columbia 273, Haskell 111, UHSP 75, HSSU 58, HLGU 23
- Competing in four separate events, Evan McVey scored 23.5 points for the Eutectics to earn the title of AMC Freshman of the Year. He broke UHSP records and earned all-conference honors in all three of his individual events, taking second place in both the 60m dash (6.98 seconds) and the long jump (6.58m – 21'7.25"), and third in the 200m dash (22.87). McVey also joined teammates Jared Morales, Chris Medlock, and Amari Wiedemeier for a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay (3:41.18).
- Brett Bushue, who earned the Freshman of the Year title last season, successfully defended his Conference Champion title in the pole vault, breaking his own school record in the process. He cleared the bar at 4.0m (13'1.5"), improving his record by two inches. Bushue also finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.78m (5'10") to total 14 points for the Eutectics.
- Ethan Arnoldi earned all-conference honors in the pole vault with a second-place finish (3.05m – 10'00") and finished fourth in the long jump (5.52m – 18'1.5") to score 12 points for UHSP.
- Wiedemeier finished second in the 600m dash with a time of 1:27.47, took fourth in the triple jump (11.89m – 39'0.25"), and also scored points with the 4x800m and 4x400m relays. The third-place 4x8 relay that included Wiedemeier, Morales, Elliot Perry, and Jack Wolfe broke the school record by more than four seconds at 8:48.73.
- Kristofer St. Clair (shot put), Medlock (60m dash), and Morales (600m) each finished sixth in their respective events to score a point for the Eutectics.

The Conference championship marks the end of the Indoor season for the Eutectic team. The UHSP team will begin preparations for the outdoor season beginning March 14 at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.
