Eutectics Break Two Records, Win Nine Events at C-SC Relays

CANTON, MO. – The Eutectic women's and men's track and field teams competed in their first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday at the Culver-Stockton Relays. Finishing in second (women) and third (men) places of four teams at the meet, the UHSP teams came home with a combined nine first-place finishes and two broken records.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

WOMEN:

Culver-Stockton 196, UHSP 167, State Fair C.C. 154, Hannibal-LaGrange 18

  • Shamari Long led the Eutectic women, scoring 17.75 points in three events at the meet. Long won the 100m dash at 12.92 seconds, ran a leg of the second-place 4x100m relay team (52.40), and finished second in the javelin throw at 35.29m (115'9").
  • Hannah Nation picked up a first-place finish in the 3,000m run with a time of 11:55.17 to score nine points for UHSP.
  • Taylor Shobe (Washington) broke the tape in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.85. She was followed by teammates Adison Plazek, Mariah Scott, Paulina Gutierrez-Trejo, Campbell Powell, Destiny Knox, and Samantha Smolnik, who finished 2nd-7th in the event of eight hurdlers.
  • Reece Halley beat out nine other throwers to win the discus throw with a mark of 36.25m (118'11").
  • The 4x400m relay team, consisting of Emerald Flores, Whitney Auguste, Gutierrez-Trejo, and Plazek earned nine points for UHSP with a first-place finish.
  • Arianna Buduan finished second in the long jump with a new UHSP record of 5.07m (16'7.75"). She also took second in the high jump at 1.47m (4'9.75").

MEN:

State Fair C.C. 223, Culver-Stockton 202, UHSP 113, Hannibal-LaGrange 20

  • Evan McVey and Kristofer St. Clair each scored 21 points to lead the Eutectic men.
    • McVey won the 100m dash, beating out 18 other sprinters, with a time of 11.27 seconds in the finals. He finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.45m (21'2") and sixth in the 200m dash at 23.53.
    • St. Clair launched the discus 38.71m (127'0") to win the event, finished second in the shot put (12.25m, 40'2.25"), and took fourth in the hammer throw at 32.26m (105'10").
  • Brett Bushue broke his own school record in the pole vault with a winning vault of 4.05m (13'3.5"). He also finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.81m (5'11.25").
  • Jack Wolfe scored nine points for UHSP with a first-place finish in the 3,000m run. His time of 10:14.65 ranks him third in the Eutectic All-Time list for the event.

The Eutectics will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., this week to take part in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
