Eutectics Return From Myrtle Beach with Five Records and 17 PRs

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Eutectic men's and women's track and field teams returned from a spring break trip at the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Myrtle Beach with five new school records and 17 personal records. Shamari Long (javelin), Evan McVey (100m dash), and Adison Plazek (400m hurdles) broke individual school records, while the women's 4x200m and men's 4x100m relays also created new marks for UHSP.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

WOMEN

Records

  • Shamari Long shattered the UHSP record in the javelin throw by more than five feet with a toss of 38.29m (125'7.5") to finish 10th of 45 throwers. The previous Eutectic record was held be Morgan Dermody at 36.62m (120'02") set in 2021.
  • Adison Plazek broke her own school record by nearly two seconds in the 400m hurdles with a new time of 1:11.05 to finish 24th.
  • The 4x200m relay team, consisting of Long, Arianna Buduan, Mariah Scott, and Leah Macon-Ford, set a new school record in the event with a time of 1:49.03. The previous record of 1:57.55 was set at last year's spring break trip.

Other Highlights

  • Leah Macon-Ford was the only Eutectic to score at the huge meet, qualifying for the finals of the 100m dash with the sixth-fastest time of 94 sprinters competing at 11.88. She finished eighth in the finals with a time of 11.91 to score a point for UHSP.
  • Shamari Long (100m, 200m), Mariah Scott (100m hurdles), Emerald Flores (400m), and Hannah Nation (3,000m) each recorded personal records as the second-fastest individuals in Eutectic program history in their respective events.

MEN

Records

  • Evan McVey ran 10.98 in the 100m dash, becoming the first Eutectic in history to run the distance in under 11 seconds. The previous record was 11.09 set by Jahari Hines in 2023. McVey's time was good enough for 38th place of 122 competitors in the event.
  • McVey was joined by Jared Morales, Christopher Medlock, and Brett Bushue to crush the school record in the 4x100m relay. Their baton crossed the finish line at 44.02 seconds for 21st place. The previous UHSP record has held since 2012 at 45.74.  

Other Highlights

  • Evan McVey improved his collegiate personal record in the 200m dash to 22.29 to finish 34th of 100 sprinters entered. The time is just .13 seconds behind Hines' record of 22.16 set in 2023.
  • The 4x800m relay team of Amari Wiedemeier, Jared Morales, Elliott Perry, and Jack Wolfe ran a time of 8:59.31 to record the third-fastest time in Eutectic program history.

Next weekend, the Eutectics will stay in St. Louis to compete at the Speed/Power Festival on Friday (Mar. 27) and the Billiken Invite on Saturday (Mar. 28), both hosted by Saint Louis University.
