No. 9-Pirates Continue Streak against Eutectics

ST. LOUIS, MO. – In the final home match of the season, the Eutectic men's volleyball team hosted the Park University Pirates from Parkville, Mo., on Friday night in the UHSP gymnasium for a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup. Despite a valiant second-set effort by the Eutectics, the No. 9-ranked Pirates (16-4, 12-3 HEART) were able to extend their winning streak over the Eutectics to 10-0 with a straight-set victory: 25-19, 25-22, 25-13.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

  • After trailing throughout the first set, the Eutectics mounted an early charge in the second set that gave them a 6-2 lead following kills from Cooper Hansen, Cameron Werner (2), and Dickson Colado, along with blocks from Colado, Werner, Grant Hoover, and Xander Quenzer. The Pirates, however, quickly rallied to an 11-8 lead and did not look back, ultimately winning the closest set of the match at 25-22.
  • The Pirates finished the match with .443 kill percentage recording 46 kills on 79 attempts. The Eutectic offense struggled to avoid a giant Pirate front row that knocked down 10 blocks in the match.
  • The UHSP offense was able to collect 30 kills on the night, led by Hoover and Hansen, each recording nine. Hoover also picked up two service aces, four digs, and two block assists.  Colado finished with .545 attacking percentage with seven kills on 11 attempts. RJ Dilks put up 28 assists. Werner was a part of three of the team's four blocks.
  • 7'2" Moises Ortiz from Park recorded five blocks, while Nicolas Tenius had 11 kills and Alessandro Gozzi picked up 12 digs and two aces.

UP NEXT:

The Eutectics, now 9-16 overall and 5-12 in the HEART, will finish out the season on the road,  starting with a trip to Greenville, Ill., on Saturday for a non-Conference tri-match with NCAA Division III teams Franklin College of Indiana (2-6) at 3 p.m. and host Greenville University (2-19) at 5 p.m.
