Eutectics Take Down Pride in Straight Sets

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The Eutectic men's volleyball team earned its fifth-straight win over the Clarke University Pride on Friday night in Heart of America Athletic Conference competition in Iowa. After a dominant first set, the Eutectics fought hard against a resilient Pride team to win the next sets by two and secure the straight-set match victory.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP DEF. CLARKE 25-17, 25-23, 25-23

  • The Eutectic offense started strong, taking a quick lead in the first set and maintaining it to the 25-17 conclusion. The set included four blocks and 11 kills by the Eutectics, who recorded a .214 attacking percentage while holding the Pride to .000.
  • The Pride returned to the court in Set 2 with renewed vigor, taking an early lead. But, finding themselves down 5-4, the Eutectics won 10 of the next 14 points to take a sizable lead and maintain it for the bulk of the set. At 24-20, the Pride fought off three set points before the Eutectics were able to seal the deal and win the set with the slimmest of margins: 25-23.
  • The Clarke team, again, took an early lead in Set 3 of 6-2. And, again, the Eutectics fought their way back into the game with kills from Cooper Hansen (2), Grant Hoover, and Maxwell McVickers, along with solo blocks from Cameron Werner and Dickson Colado to go up 13-11. That's when the Pride won three points in a row to take the lead and fight for every point thereafter. The score was tied nine times after that, with both teams fighting for their chance to hold the lead. In the end, it was UHSP who, at 22-22, won three points in a row off three kills from McVickers to get to set point. The Pride would score one more before McVickers would strike again to win match point for the Eutectics at 25-23.
  • Maxwell McVickers finished the match with a season-high 10 kills on 17 attempts with one error to average .529 for attacking. RJ Dilks did the majority of setting up McVickers, racking up 30 assists in the three-set match. Dilks also led the team in digs with eight. Cameron Werner was involved in five of the Eutectics' nine total blocks in the match.
