Tyse Advances to Quarterfinals of Roger Denker Open

Leroy "Carlos" Tyse made Eutectic history on Sunday, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Roger Denker Open men's wrestling tournament in Warrensburg, Mo.

Leroy "Carlos" Tyse received a bye in the first round of 32 to advance to the second round of the Open 285 weight class. There he faced unattached opponent Reidyn Sema-Ames, who also advanced through the first round with a bye. Tyse won his matchup with Sema-Ames with a fall at 4:56, earning his first collegiate win and the first-ever wrestling win for the inaugural University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy wrestling program.

The win advanced Tyse into the quarterfinals of the Open 285 bracket, where he was matched up against Kawaun Deboe of Indian Hill Community College (Iowa). Deboe had won his first two matches of the tournament through 8-1 and 6-2 decisions. In the quarterfinal match, Deboe defeated Tyse with a fall at 0:35, thereby sending Tyse to the consolation bracket.

In the back draw, Tyse took on another unattached wrestler, Christopher York. York defeated Tyse with a fall at 0:45 to knock Tyse out of the tournament competition. Deboe went on to win the consolation bracket.

The Eutectic men's wrestling team is next scheduled to compete at the Missouri Valley Invite this Friday-Saturday, Jan.20-21 in Marshall, Mo.
