Panthers Too Much for Eutectics
AFFTON, MO –The Eutectics Softball team hosted DIII Greenville University Panthers (10-0) in a windy doubleheader at Affton Athletic Association. Coming off two losses yesterday from Greenville's conference rival, the Euts were looking to gain momentum today, heading into American Midwest Conference play this weekend. Unfortunately, a tough Panthers team played two solid games, both offensively and defensively, to take home both wins, the first 8-2 and the second 10-1 in five innings.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP - 2, Greenville - 8
- Greenville had a strong second inning, scoring five runs off 2 walks, an error, a fielder's choice, a couple of singles and stolen bases, and a triple to take a solid 5-run lead over the Eutectics.
- The Panthers held the Eutectics scoreless in their half of the second inning and extended their lead off a lead-off double, a subsequent fielding error, and a groundout RBI to make it seven in the third.
- The Eutectics saw their first runner cross home plate in the fifth inning. Payton Reinbott led off the inning with a single through the right side. Hallie Roper kept the Euts alive with a 2-out single, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Alicia Kimble took care of business and kept UHSP from a 5-inning shutout by knocking both runners in with a double to left field.
- The Panthers tacked on one more run in the sixth with an Ashlynn Colvis RBI and held the Euts scoreless for the remainder of the game to win 8-2.
- Hallie Roper led the Euts at the plate, going two for three. Alicia Kimble had both RBIs for the Purple and Gold. Emma Henley pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs on ten hits while striking out five.
- Sarah Salas got the win for the Panthers.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP - 1, Greenville - 10
- The Eutectics struck first in game two, getting on the board in the first inning. Hallie Roper was hit by a pitch and then driven in off a 2-out double from the bat of Alicia Kimble.
- Talianna Joyner started the game strong, holding the Panthers scoreless through three innings. However, the Panthers' bats came alive in the fourth inning and carried over into the fifth. They scored 5 runs in each inning.
- Hunter Noto tried to keep the game going with her two-out double in the bottom of the fifth, but she was left stranded as Greenville held on to win 10-1 in just five innings.
- Hunter Noto led the Eutectics, going two for three from the plate. Alicia Kimble was responsible for the Euts' lone RBI; she drove in all three runs for the home team today.
- Melissa Bernal got the complete game win for the Panthers.
UHSP drops to 6-8 on the season. They are back in action this weekend as they travel to Columbia, Mo. for American Midwest Conference play. First up is Columbia College on Saturday and Stephens College on Sunday. The games are at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm both days.
