Henley stellar in G1 win; Pioneers rally to take G2

AFFTON, MO – The Eutectics finished out a ten-game homestand with a Tuesday doubleheader against new AMC rival Crowley's Ridge. Emma Henley went all eight innings in game one as Trysten Murphy delivered a bad-hop walk-off RBI single to score Hallie Roper to leadoff the inning as the Eutectics pulled off a 3-2 extra inning win. Game two saw the Eutectics rally to overcome a 6-3 deficit, only to see the Pioneers rally with a 6-run sixth leading to a 12-9 CRC victory.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 3, CROWLEY'S RIDGE 2 (8 INNINGS)

  • The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Kailey Samora led off the frame with a single and eventually scored on a throwing error to break the scoreless tie. Alicia Kimble had an RBI sacrifice fly later in the inning.
  • It was 2-1 in the top of the seventh when Kourtni Jagneaux tied it with an RBI single down the right field line.
  • UHSP had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but could not score.
  • Natalie Brightwell started for CRC, but did not factor in the decision. She went six frames giving two runs on four hits, walking one and fanning three.
  • Aimee Buckley (2-4) took the loss going 1.2IP yielding five hits and an unearned run.
  • Henley (3-10) saw the Pioneers collect 15 hits while she struck out three without a walk.
  • It was the second time this season that Henley pitched more than seven innings in an outing.
  • Kailey Samora was 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
  • Karsen Overshine and Jordan Janak were each 3-for-4 for Crowley's Ridge. Janak had a double.
  • Mackenzie Nelson went 1-for-3 and has reached via a hit in six of the last seven games.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:

CROWLEY'S RIDGE, 12, UHSP 9

  • Alicia Kimble highlighted a 3-run first with a two-run triple to score Samora and Roper who had singled and walked respectively.
  • Samora and Roper had two-run base hits to fuel a six-run fifth allowing UHSP to take the lead 7-6. Those hits chased CRC starter Ava Jessup from the circle. Murphy and Lexi Knoll added RBI hits in the inning.
  • Jessup ended up going four innings getting touched for eight runs on five hits, striking out one and walking two.
  • Trysten Murphy started for UHSP and went 3.1IP. She allowed six runs on seven hits while walking three and fanning one. Murphy got hit in the wrist by a line-drive comebacker, but stayed in the game.
  • Eva Kameoka went two innings and scattered seven hits along with a walk. She departed with a lead, but left with the bases loaded. The Pioneers promptly recorded three straight RBI singles sending Kameoka to the loss having allowed four runs.
  • Halea Wells went three innings in relief to get the win and improve to 5-6. She only allowed an unearned run on five hits.

UP NEXT:

The Eutectics (11-23, 4-14 AMC) still yet have four of their final six remaining games at home, but up next is their final road series of the year when they visit Missouri Baptist (34-6, 16-2 AMC) on Friday at 2:00p. Then on Saturday, UHSP hosts Hannibal-LaGrange at noon and then finish out the regular season at home against Oakland City next Tuesday at 2:00p.
