Eutectics Split a Pair with the Cougars

COLUMBIA, MO – The Eutectics took on AMC rival Columbia Cougars in a doubleheader Saturday in Columbia, Mo. UHSP took game one 4-1, beating the Cougars for just the second time in program history. Columbia rallied in game two to defeat the Euts 5-1.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

GAME 1 – UHSP 4, COLUMBIA 1

  • A two-run third put UHSP on top as Sydney Hinojosa singled to right field to drive in Hunter Noto and Ryleigh Davidson would score on a wild pitch.
  • Columbia's lone run came in the bottom of the third as Taryn Hagardt had an RBI single.
  • Hinojosa drove in two on the day and made it a 3-1 game with an RBI single in the fifth. Noto added an RBI single in the seventh.
  • Trysten Murphy (4-0) spun an absolute gem to beat the Cougars. She threw a complete game allowing just six hits and not walking anyone as Columbia managed just one run. Murphy would strikeout one.
  • Ella Schouten (5-5) suffered the loss allowing four runs on seven hits. She walked just two and struck out 14 in the game.
  • The top four in the UHSP lineup accounted for all seven hits.

GAME 2 – COLUMBIA 5, UHSP 1

  • It was a pitchers' duel through the first part of the game as Eutectics' pitcher Anna Lucas and Cougars' pitcher Kennedy Jensen kept their opponents scoreless through five and three innings, respectively.
  • Anna Lucas helped herself out on the offensive end of the ball, putting the Eutectics on the board first with an RBI single to right field, driving in Mackenzie Nelson in the third.
  • Columbia broke things open in the sixth inning, scoring five off an RBI single and a pair of triples.
  • Hunter Noto, Hallie Roper, and Trysten Murphy each had two hits for the Eutectics. 
  • Anna Lucas (3-4) pitched a very strong 5.2 innings, striking out four, but gave up five earned runs on ten hits in the loss. She drove in UHSP's lone run. 
  • Columbia now leads the all-time series between the two 22-2.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics (11-9, 5-3 AMC) are right back at it tomorrow (Sunday) as they travel to Nevada, MO for an AMC doubleheader against Cottey (19-6, 2-0) beginning at 1:00 pm. Then Wednesday, it will be a non-conference double dip at Knox College.
