Stars Outshine Eutectics with Stellar Defense

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's basketball team hosted the Stephens College Stars (9-7, 6-4 AMC) from Columbia, Mo., on Thursday evening for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) matchup. The Stars' defensive pressure proved the undoing of the Eutectics, who fell 75-44 to the visitors in the first of a home-and-home series this season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Stars' defense forced six UHSP turnovers in the first three minutes of play to go up 10-4 and continued to pressure the Eutectics throughout the game with blocks and steals.
  • After allowing 27 points from Stephens in the first quarter, the Eutectics held them to 17 in the second to bring the score to 44-25 at halftime.
  • The third-quarter scoring was difficult for both teams with Stephens making only 3-of-18 attempts from the floor for 16.7% shooting while the Eutectics 3-for-10. The Stars dropped in four free-throws to edge out the Eutectics 10 points to nine for the entire period.
  • The Stars returned to their first-quarter dominance in the final quarter, tacking on an additional 11 points to their lead.
  • Stephens' Chu Crockett led all scorers with 22 points, going 8-for-14 from the floor. She earned a double double with 13 rebounds and tacked on three blocks and three steals to her final game stats.
  • Jada Griggs led the Eutectics with eight points, while Montasia McAllister recorded seven points and nine rebounds. Rylee Hipp (7), Karsyn Morgan (4), Eva Parks (4), Arianna Buduan (3), DaNaiyah Darnell (3), Sara Hameed (2), Allison Sampson (2), Kiley Dyer (2), and Ella Volkhart (2) also scored for UHSP.

The Eutectics, now 2-13 overall and 2-7 in the AMC, will next host the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets (2-12, 1-8 AMC) as part of a men's and women's AMC doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. in the UHP gymnasium.
