Spartans Stop Eutectic Streak

ST. LOUIS, MO. – After a four-game win streak, the Eutectic women's basketball team suffered a loss at cross-town rival Missouri Baptist University (6-16, 6-10 AMC) tonight in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) contest. The Spartan victory puts the MBU team just ahead of the Eutectics in the AMC standings at eighth as both teams now have a 6-10 record in Conference play with MBU claiming two victories over the Eutectics in head-to-head competitions this season.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Spartans took control of the game immediately, holding the Eutectics to just eight points in the first quarter, while racking up 24 of their own. While the UHSP team improved their scoring output in the second quarter to 13, they still found themselves down 43-21 by halftime.
  • The UHSP offense picked up in the second half to nearly match the home team at 17-16 in the third quarter and outscore the Spartans 22-19 in the fourth. But, the 20-point first-half deficit was too much to overcome.
  • Arianna Buduan led the Euts on offense with 14 points, going 4-for-8 from the floor including 2-for-4 from the arc. Karsyn Morgan scored 13 points, adding five rebounds to her tally. Other UHSP scorers: Montasia McAllister (7), Eva Parks (7), Rylee Hipp (7), Alina Bowden (4), DaNaiyah Darnell (3), Jada Griggs (2) and Sara Hameed (2).
  • Mariana Cubero finished with a double double for the Spartans, recording 11 points and 11 rebounds, while tacking on four assists. MBU's Sophia Horton and Aliyah Williams each scored 16 points in the game. Williams also picked up four steals.

The Eutectics will return to their home court on Saturday, Feb. 8, hosting Conference leader Williams Baptist University (19-3, 15-1 AMC) at 1 p.m. in the UHSP gymnasium.
