Tough night for UHSP as Stars bury Eutectics
COLUMBIA, MO – The Stephens Stars dropped the Eutectics back below the .500 mark on Saturday afternoon with a 100-60 win over UHSP. It was the fifth straight win for Stephens over the visitors from St. Louis. Aryanna Bull was the lone Eutectic in double digits with 24 points, but the Stars saw three players reach double figures led by 25 points from LaiJanique Perry-Ellis.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
STEPHENS 100, UHSP 60
- After a Reece Halley bucket tied the game at the outset 2-2, Stephens rolled off 13 straight and 20 of the next 22 to take a commanding 22-4 advantage. Stephens led by 24 at the end of the first quarter, 36-12.
- Stephens made half of their 20 field goal attempts in the second quarter while UHSP made just four shots as the Stars led 60-28 at the half.
- It was a 20-10 third quarter in favor of the home club. LaiJanique Perry-Ellis scored ten points in the quarter for Stephens going 3-of-3 from the floor and making all four free throws as Stephens took an 80-38 advantage after three.
- Aryanna Bull scored 13 of her team-high 24 in the fourth as UHSP outscored SC 22-20 in the period. The Stars had 18 rebounds in the quarter, but turned it over seven times while the Eutectics went seven and two respectively in those two categories.
- Reece Halley finished with nine points and team-high nine rebounds.
- Simone Clay had 18 points for Stephens and Quimari Shelton added ten. Shelton added a club-high nine boards.
- Stephens went 14-of-39 from the three-point line (35.9%) while UHSP was just 3-for-17 from the perimeter (17.6%).
- It was the first time this season that the Stars broke the century mark. Their previous game high was 93 against Crowley's Ridge two games ago.
- Stephens leads the all-time series 32-10.

Thursday is the next contest for the Eutectics (8-9, 5-2 AMC) when Harris-Stowe (3-10, 2-5 AMC) makes the short trip across town to the UHSP Gymnasium. Tip off is at 5:30p. UHSP will then get their first shot at the conference front-runners in Columbia next Saturday on the road at 1:00p.
