It's bombs away for Columbia as Cougars handle Eutectics

COLUMBIA, MO – It was a tough night for the Eutectics as they met up with the AMC front-runners, the Columbia Cougars on Tuesday night. The Cougars stormed out of the gate to a 23-3 lead and cruised from there to a 101-60 win in a game that was never close. The Cougars drilled 14 threes in the game, eight of which came from Lauren Friedrich which tied a Columbia Cougars' record. Friedrich led all scorers with 30 points on the night.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

COLUMBIA 101, UHSP 66

  • A 29-8 first quarter saw Columbia make 12 field goals compared to just three for UHSP. Lauren Friedrich had eight points and seven rebounds in the quarter for CC. The home club scored the first ten points in the game and then led 16-1.
  • Columbia opened the second quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 43-12 advantage. CC shot 45% and outrebounded UHSP 16-10 in the quarter. The Cougars led 52-24 at the half.
  • Friedrich poured in ten more points in the third as the Cougars took advantage of eight Eutectic turnovers in the third quarter. It was another big run to start the quarter by CC as they ran off 17 of the first 21 points to take a 69-28 lead. It was 75-40 after three.
  • Aryanna Bull scored 15 of her team-high 26 in the fourth quarter for UHSP. She added eight rebounds in the quarter, finishing with 12 boards for the game. The Eutectics shot 45.5% in the period, but Columbia made half of their 20 field goal attempts including four from perimeter.
  • UHSP hit just two of their 18 three points (11.1%) in the game while Columbia was 14-for-34 (41.2%).
  • The Eutectics have been one of the better rebounding teams in the AMC this season, but got beat on the glass to the tune of 57-44.

The Eutectics (12-12, 9-5 AMC) will have a chance to get back in the win column on Thursday when they play on the road at Hannibal-LaGrange (5-18, 2-11 AMC). Tip time is 5:30p.
