Ready leads the way as UHSP finishes 4th at Columbia
COLUMBIA, MO – The Eutectics continued a strong showing this fall as they claimed fourth place in the Columbia Cougars Classic, a two-day tournament that finished on Tuesday. Harper Ready was the best finisher for UHSP as she had a solid second day to finish 11th overall in the tournament. UHSP as a team recorded five birdies, four of which came on the second day.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- In the opening round, Ready had a tough start to the tournament, but fared much better on the back-nine. On day two, she was a little steadier throughout. On day one, she was over-par on each of the first six holes. She parred numbers seven and eight, but double-bogeyed nine. Sitting 11-over at the turn, she parred the first three on the back-nine and five of the first six. She finished 18-over at 90 on the day. Ready was…well…more ready on day two. She birdied the very first hole and parred the next two, a vastly different start to the round than the previous day. She was 6-over at the turn and shot a matching 6-over on the back including a birdie on the par-5, 449-yard 14th hole.
- Addison Sullivan finished in 18th place going 95-93. She finished at 188 (+44) overall and had an even wilder opening round than her teammate Ready. Sullivan only had one par through the first nine and struggled mightily on holes 3-6. She found herself in trouble on the par-4, 340-yard 5th and ending up taking a ten. She was at 55 through nine. Sullivan immediately turned that around and ended up better than Ready on the back nine as she finished just 4-over at 40. She had six pars in the final nine holes of day one. Round two was about the same for Sullivan, but not as dramatic. She was seven strokes better on the back-nine than the front and need just two strokes to solve the par-3, 116-yard 11th hole, her lone birdie of the tournament.
- Ella Penke finished three stokes and two spots behind Sullivan in 20th position, with five golfers behind her all within five strokes. She had four pars on day one and was at 49 on the front and 45 on the back. She found five pars on day two and after a 47 on the front-nine, shot three more than that on the back for a 191 (+47) total.
- Grace Wilkinson came in at 201 overall (+57), good for 29th place. She had one par on day one and went 51-50 for a 101 total. Her front nine on day two saw her card a 53, but her back-nine was her best as she shot a 47 for a day-two total of 100. She had three pars on the back-nine in the second round.
- Zoe Lopez tied for 31st with Alexis Overstreet of Coffeyville CC. The pair shot matching 206's (+62), but got there almost in exact opposite ways. Lopez was much better on day one, while Overstreet was the better of the two on the second day. Lopez went 98-108, Overstreet 111-95. Lopez shot four pars on day one, but just one on day two. She did birdie the 360-yard, par 4 7th on day two.
- Reese Stovall of Truman State won the tournament with a 159 (+15). Her teammate Claire Jarrett and Columbia's Ellie Soderholm both finished three back in a tie for second place. Columbia finished at the top team with a 667 (+91), 13 strokes better than second-place Truman State. It was the second fall tournament title for the Cougars. William Woods was third at 728 (+152). UHSP was fourth at 751 (+175), fending off Rend Lake (753) and Nebraska Wesleyan (761).
