Eutectics Notch 10-goal Win over Mountaineers
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's lacrosse team hosted the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers for a non-Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Lou Fusz Soccer Complex. The Eutectics earned a decisive 13-3 victory over the Mountaineers (0-8), capped off by Ella Penke's hat trick in the fourth quarter.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- UHSP took the lead early, scoring two goals in the first quarter (Michelle Le unassisted and Haley Smith from Penke (up)). The Mountaineers finally marked the board with less than a minute left in the first quarter.
- The UHSP offense took command in the second quarter, scoring four goals and allowing none from the visitors to claim a 6-1 lead at the half. Second quarter goals came from Smith (unassisted)(up), Gracie Spicer (from Penke), Marisa Podio (unassisted), and Le (from Melanie Doub)(up).
- Molly Bierman (down) and Caeley Doran (even) scored unassisted goals early in the third quarter to put the Euts up 8-1 before EOU put their second goal on the board in the last four minutes of the quarter.
- Penke started her fourth-quarter hat trick with an unassisted goal after a minute-and-a-half. Doran would score a second goal at 6:40 before Penke again found the net a minute later. 30 seconds later EOU's Jade McCoy scored her second goal of the game to make it 11-3. Two minutes later, Josie Hayden found an open Penke who scored from close range. Biermann would score once more to put the Eutectics up by 10 and force a running clock for the final 2:22.
- The Eutectics outshot the Mountaineers 30-9. With 21 UHSP shots on goal, EOU's goalkeeper made eight saves. Eutectic goalkeeper Brianna Dixon made six saves on EOU's nine shots on goal, while also collecting three ground balls. Podio led the Euts with two draw controls and Penke recorded two assists to pace the UHSP team.

Now 3-6 overall, the Eutectics will be back to Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to take on the Mount Mercy University Mustangs (0-4) at 11 a.m. Both teams will be battling for their first Conference win of the season.
