Wildcats Eke Out Win over Eutectics

CANTON, MO. – After multiple lead changes and seven tie scores throughout the game, the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats (1-2) offense finally took the lead for good in the fourth quarter, defeating the Eutectic women's lacrosse team 11-8 loss on the road on Tuesday.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

CSC 11, UHSP 8

  • The Wildcats struck first, with Addison Holm marking the board midway into the first quarter. But just a minute later, UHSP freshman Sadi Adams scored an unassisted goal around the six-minute mark to tie the game at 1-1. Three minutes later, she assisted Michelle Le for a go-ahead goal to put the Euts up 2-1 heading into the second period.
  • Culver scored the first two goals in the second quarter to take a 3-2 lead, but at 8:34 Adams assisted Melanie Doub with a goal to tie the score at 3 apiece. CSC's Holm scored an unassisted goal with 2:37 left in the half to allow the home team to claim a 4-3 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Eutectics took advantage of a man-up situation early in the third when Molly Biermann scored on another Adams assist to tie the score. Then, Michelle Le found the net on her own to score the go-ahead goal for the Euts less than a minute later. The Wildcats then scored on a free position shot to tie it at 6-6, but Adams converted her own free position shot to reclaim the lead for UHSP at 8:56. The Eutectic lead was short-lived, however, as CSC scored two unanswered goals before the fourth period to take a 7-6 lead.
  • Biermann opened up the fourth period with a tying goal (7-7) off an assist from Adriana Cain. But, the Wildcat offense found a groove after that, scoring four goals in a row to take an 11-7 lead. Ella Penke scored off an assist from Le in the final three minutes, but time ran out before UHSP could make up the full difference.
  • Sadi Adams finished the game with two goals, three assists, and three ground balls to lead the Eutectics. UHSP goalkeeper Brianna Dixon was charged with the loss, making three saves on 10 shots in the second half. Izzy Lash started the game in goal for the Eutectics, making six saves on 10 shots.
  • The Wildcats outshot the Eutectics 23-20 and had 20 shots on goal compared to the Eutectics' 13. UHSP did beat CSC in the number of Draw Controls (13-9), but gave up 31 turnovers, compared to CSC's 22, and picked up 26 ground balls compared to the Wildcats' 30.

After two games, the Eutectics hold a record of 1-1. On Friday, Feb. 27, the UHSP team will host the Missouri Baptist Spartans (2-0) for a Heart of America Athletic Conference contest at Lou Fusz Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.
