Eutectics Fall to Bulldogs in Tennessee

ATHENS, TENN. – The Eutectic women's lacrosse team closed out its weekend travel with a Sunday afternoon non-Conference game at Tennessee Wesleyan University against the 7-2 Bulldogs. The Bulldogs led the game from the start, and put on a six-point offensive surge in the final quarter to win the matchup by 10 points: 16-6.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

TWU 16, UHSP 6

  • TWU took the lead immediately, scoring two assisted goals and one unassisted power-play goal to go up 3-0. With five minutes left in the quarter, UHSP's Sadi Adams scored on a free position shot to get the Euts on the board. The Bulldogs scored on another power play and Downey put one more in the net before the end of the quarter to give TWU a 5-1 lead.
  • Ella Penke opened up the scoring in the second quarter, recording an unassisted goal at 14:39. After a power-play goal from the Bulldogs, Penke set up Adams for her second goal of the game at 10:51, bringing the score to 6-3. TWU would score two more before halftime to give them an 8-3 lead heading into the second half.
  • UHSP crept up on the Bulldogs in the third quarter when Penke assisted Melanie Doub for a goal at 11:31 and Caeley Doran scored unassisted at 9:07 to put the score at 8-5. TWU's Olivia and Aava Downey, however, were each able to score before the third-period ended to give the Bulldogs a 10-5 advantage.
  • The Bulldog offense exploded for six goals in the fourth quarter, with Jozlyn Long scoring a hat trick and Olivia Downey scoring her sixth goal of the game. UHSP's Josie Hayden found the net off an assist from Adriana Cain to break up the TWU scoring, but that was the only success the Eutectics found on offense in those final 15 minutes.
  • Sadi Adams finished the game with two goals on eight shots and added two ground balls, while Ella Penke score one goal on eight shots and pitched in two assists and a ground ball. Michelle Le and Caeley Doran recorded four and three draw controls, respectively.
  • Starting UHSP goalkeeper Brianna Dixon played nearly 33 minutes to be charged with the loss after four saves on 12 shots. Izzy Lash spent 27 minutes in the net for the Eutectics and also recorded four saves on 12 shots.

The Eutectics are now 1-4 in non-Conference play so far this season. They will open up their Heart of America Athletic Conference season this Friday at Lou Fusz Soccer Complex when they play host to Mount Mercy University (0-1) from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at 3 p.m.
