Eutectics Suffer Penalty-Laden Loss to Wildcats on Senior Day
CREVE COEUR, MO. – With inclement weather threatening, the clouds held their moisture just enough for fans to enjoy a pre-game senior day celebration and a mostly-dry final home women's lacrosse game for the Eutectics on Wednesday versus Culver-Stockton College (5-9, 3-3 HEART). While the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) game was not delayed due to weather, a plethora of penalties extended the first quarter and set the tone for the 11-6 C-SC Wildcat victory over the UHSP Eutectics (2-8, 1-4 HEART) at UHSP's home field at Lou Fusz Soccer Complex.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- UHSP's Ella Penke's unassisted man-up goal in the first quarter was sandwiched between two Wildcat goals. Nine penalties were called in those first 15 minutes, including three of the four yellow cards against the Eutectics.
- In the second quarter, the penalties cooled as the Wildcat offense dominated possession, scoring on half of their 10 shots for five goals. UHSP's one goal in the period came from Caeley Doran who scored on a power play off an assist from Melanie Doub. The Wildcats led 7-2 at halftime.
- Despite an early free position goal from Penke, the Wildcats maintained the momentum into the third quarter, scoring the next four goals. Penke was able to score again in the final two minutes of the quarter with an unassisted man-up goal.
- With the score at 11-4 – Wildcats, the Eutectic defense rallied to shut out the C-SC offense in the fourth quarter. Penke and Doran would each score one more in that final period: Penke on a man-up unassisted goal and Doran on a free-position shot. But, the Eutectics were unable to come any closer than 11-6.
- 14 of the 20 penalties in the game were called against the Wildcats.
